Whether engineered or accidental, New York is an influencer’s paradise of photo opportunities. People scramble over bridges, lean over ledges, and pose endlessly against iconic backdrops – all in the service of snapping the perfect shot.

But what does this mean for public spaces? In New York, as more and more visitors are living vicariously through the lenses of their iPhones, interactions with places are becoming more superficial. Do public spaces need to offer more than just a photo opportunity, in order to forge meaningful relationships?
