Probably the best masterplan in the world?

In 2009, Carlsberg City won the ‘Best Master Plan’ award at the World Architecture Festival. Thirteen years later, it’s clear to see why.

When architectural firm Entasis took on the plans, they inherited a set of historical buildings, gateways and gardens that form an ingrained part of Danish culture. It was once the trendy home of Carlsberg beer – now set to be turned into 3,100 apartments.

In a project fraught with local concern, the landscape today is impressive. Intricate detail and historical references on the new buildings help blend them seamlessly with the old. Low-rent tenancies ensure that every shop-front is filled with charming, independent boutiques – even those that face the construction sites.

With 20% still to build, Carlsberg City has already grown into its skin: an active, beautiful place where people naturally want to spend time.
